Feelers reaching Kalabari Times suggest that the Amanyanabo of Abonnema, His Majesty, King (Barr.) Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel II, Owukori IX, has set up a high-powered committee to look into the crisis rocking the O. B. Lulu-Briggs’ family with a view to resolving it as soon as possible.
The committee, after hopefully resolving the crisis, will then plan with the O. B. Lulu-Briggs’ family to give Late High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs a befitting burial rite.
According to our source, the Abonnema monarch’s intervention in the lingering crisis is premised on the fact that the Late High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs, as the head of the Young Briggs House of Abonnema, an elderly statesman, business mogul and philanthropist of national and international repute, deserves to be accorded a last respect by giving him a befitting burial.
We also gathered that in setting up this committee, the Amanyanabo of Abonnema is answering Governor Nyesom Wike’s clarion call on him to wade into the O. B. Lulu-Briggs’ family crisis, an appeal the governor made when the Kalabari people visited him in government house, on the 12th of December, 2019.
Though yet to be confirmed, sources are rife that the committee is made up of highly respected elites of Kalabari extraction who are considered to be heavy weights in their various fields of endeavour, such as the likes of Chief Justice Karibi Whyte, Prof. Nimi Briggs, Bishop Ombo Isokariari, Chief A. M. Georgewill and Chief Horsfall, among many others.
We also gathered that some local government chairmen are likely to make the list as more names are likely to be drafted in. As at the time of filling this report, K Times was unable to reach the Abonnema Council of Chiefs for confirmation.
